Fees are very rarely published by ‘consultancy’ businesses, but it’s not unreasonable to want to know what you are in for if we work together.
Firstly, it is worth pointing out that there is no charge, and no obligation, for a phone call, a few emails, or even an initial visit to scope out a potential project. Quite often there is value in these conversations, at no risk to yourself, so it’s worth a shot!
Ultimately, fees depend on exactly what we are doing for your business, and in many cases where there is a project involved, we will work on a fixed-fee basis in any event, so whatever we agree will be the full and final cost.
Average fixed fee projects tend to be in the £3,000 to £5,000 range, but vary hugely, as you would expect. I often undertake small bits of work for £100 to £200.
However, as a guide, we charge around the following rates for the services described:
|Software development/ contracting||£45/hour; £360/day|
|General consulting/ business services||£65/hour; £520/day|
|Retained services (see below)||From £750/month|
All fees are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.
Retained services vary hugely. I assume a nominal number of days a month, starting at two days, either onsite or remote, plus remote support at any other time. In other words, I am on call (within reason!) to work on your behalf whenever you need us.
As you can see, the day rate for retained services is significantly below the normal day rate – this is because of the regularity of the engagement. Because I am not having to spend time ‘selling’ those days, I’m prepared to share that saving with you.
As a general rule, I do not charge expenses for mileage, travel or subsistence – everything is covered in the fee that you pay.
I reserve the right to claim travel or accommodation costs in certain circumstances, and always by arrangement.
Subject to my Terms and Conditions I offer a full guarantee that, if anything I do is not to your satisfaction, I will either remedy it at my own expense, or I will refund your payments, by negotiation, in full or in part.
I hold full Professional Indemnity Insurance in the amount of £500,000.
